Rick’s lettering, surely the most associated with 1960’s psychedelia, had its roots in his earlier work as a comic book artist for surfer mags and Zap Comix, among many others -  A version of Griffin's Flying Eyeball showed up on many Grateful Dead Backstage Passes<br>Griffin would continue to create art for the Dead until his untimely early death in 1991, including seminal images for Wake of the Flood, Without A Net, and their Twentieth and Twenty-Fifth Anniversaries.
