Description
This listing is for a set of four (4) 10 1/4" LARGE dinner plates made by the Fostoria Glass Company. The dinner plates were made on a Fostoria azure blue blank, and then acid etched with Fostoria's lovely "June" pattern. Fostoria made their "June" pattern from the year 1928 to 1944.Fostoria's "June" pattern was one of the most highly sought after patterns by brides of the depression era, and today is the most
collected pattern of the depression era "elegant" glassware.
The brides-to-be would visit their local drugstore or department store to choose the pattern and color of their desired wedding crystal for their wedding registry.
Photos #1 through #3 are of plate number one;
Photos #4 through #6 are of plate number two;
Photos #7 through #9 are of plate number three; and
Photos #10 through #12 are of plate number four.
These large dinner plates are from my husband's Fostoria azure blue June etched collection, and are in excellent, pre-owned condition with only a few usage marks - most of which are on the reverse side in the milled off section (the part that touches a shelf or table). I used a magnifying glass to check the plates, and found no flakes, nicks, or chips.
It is quite common for the "elegant depression glassware" pieces to have both microscopic bubbles and what I refer to as "acid faults" which occurred at the time of manufacture.
The Fostoria decorators inadvertently left microscopic disturbances resulting from the acid or etching tool they were using in the etching process. To the naked eye, these "acid faults" can appear to be a nick or scratch in the glass.
The best way to discern these areas are "acid faults" and not scratches or nicks is to study the piece with a magnifying glass of some type. As these things occurred at the time of manufacture, they do not affect the value of the piece. By using a magnifying glass, I have seen tiny specks of dirt and bits of string in Fostoria June pieces.
Plate #2 has two tiny dot-shaped "acid faults" near the center of the plate; and Plate #3 has a semi-circular "acid fault" which can be seen in the upper-right in Photos #2 and #5, and in the lower right of Photo #4.
Please know that these are not nearly as noticeable in person as they appear in the photos - these are closeup photos, and, in addition, my camera takes high-def photos. I checked the plate with a jeweler's loupe, and this are indeed "acid faults" caused at the time of etching.
I will ship the large dinner plates to you via UPS with tracking and insurance as I have found they can ship heavier or bulkier parcels cheaper than can the postal service.
I use ample bubble wrap to protect your purchase on its way to you.
Also know that I charge exact shipping only, and do not inflate that amount. My items ship from Oklahoma. When a parcel crosses either the Appalachians to the east or the Rockies to the west, those amounts can seem high. Should there be a difference between the amount you pay and the actual shipping amount, I will promptly refund that amount to your account through the website.
However, I have included a charge of .00 to help cover the cost of insuring the plates to the value of the purchase price. When shipping via UPS, the first 0 value of the purchase price is insured at no charge, but there will be a charge for every additional 0 of the remaining 5 of the purchase price value to be insured.
I will gladly accept the return of the large dinner plates within 30 (thirty) days of your receiving them with the return shipping at the buyer's expense, and provided there has been no damage or alteration to any of the plates.
Thank you for stopping by my listings!
